Live Gaussian Blur is missing from latest builds of v25 Beta Photoshop. If I downgrade to v24.7 it is there.

Running Mac OS v13.5.1

Hi all, Live Gaussian Blur and Live Canvas were removed from Ps beta. There is no more information on it at this time but it will not be in the app moving forward.

I used that constantly! I've been waiting for that for years. Please tell me how to get this same effect of being able to blur the background without the main subject bleeding into the blur even if only the background is selected.

Can't say that I miss it. I have an 2015 iMac and I often work with very large images. I'd sometimes select Live Gaussian Blur by accident when I only wanted Gaussian Blur and it would take a good three to four minutes to back out of it while it updated. I prefer Field Blur in the Blur Gallery. I duplicate the layer first in case I don't like the results, but Field Blur gives me complete control over the entire image. It still takes awhile to update when I'm working on large images, but I much prefer it over Live Gaussian Blur even if it was still available.

Updated Mac Os to v13.5.1 yesterday, running v25 Beta Photoshop. After Mac Os updated I got a prompt to once again update Photoshop Beta v25 was already installed after which Live Gaussian Blur has disappeared from the filters section.

I tried rolling back to v24.7 (Beta) and it's still present on that version.

Anyone else experie

I am running on a Macbook with a M1 chip on Ventura 13.4.1 and 16Gb of memory and v24.7 of Photoshop Beta.

If I open a CR3 file and go direct to Live Guassian Blur my image is covered in pink as per the screenshot

I get the same on a jpg but to a lesser extent - but still not usable

On another jpg I got lots of pink

Not sure what else youn need to know

Hi @Lywood5D24 does this happen to all files or just this one?

It may help if we could see your Photoshop System Info. Launch Photoshop, and select Help >System Info...and copy/paste the text in a reply.

Came here looking for anyone else with issues. Live Gaussian blur has never worked properly for me, but as of latest update it's completely unusable and bricks my computer to the point where I have to force reboot after 30+ mins of it being stuck and mouse disappearing, then whichever file I was working on will reopen as just solid green sometimes with pink lines through it. I learnt my lesson not to attempt using it with anything important but I've just spent the past few hours trying to get it to work and my computer freezing then taking forever to get going again. I have a MacBook Pro with highest possible ram and specs specifically so I could run photoshop since my last one could not handle it well, but I think it's an adobe issue since it can run other heavy programs without blinking. So many tools in ps lag and crash but live Gaussian blur is particularly bad. I also don't know if this was ever an option but in the past the few times I got the tool to semi work it wouldn't let me 'brush on' only erase automatically applied blur.

Why doesn't the new "Live Gaussian Blur" show up?

Hi @virginias98557798 sorry about that, at this time it is Mac only, are you on a Mac?

Try resetting Prefs for the Beta:

/Users/yoourname/Library/Preferences/Adobe\ Photoshop\ \(Beta\)\ Settings

Launch BETA Photoshop While Pressing The Keyboard Shortcut

With Photoshop closed, press and hold Shift+Ctrl+Alt (Win) / Shift+Command+Option (Mac) on your keyboard and then Launch Photoshop the way you normally would.

It may help if we could see your Photoshop System Info. Launch Photoshop, and select Help >System Info...and copy/paste the text in a reply.

Thank you,

Cory

Live guassian blur is a great improvement, but the masking at this point should be a a gradient of 'effect' not simply masking transparency of the original image. If I'm using a soft brush on a live effect, the gradient between 'black' and 'white' should have an intermittent affect on the intensity of the effect, akin to the iris blur going from no affect to max affect.

As of now, you can just see the underlying original to varying degrees of transparency.
