Question

Nur Oberflächen ändern, nicht die Form.

Hallo! Tinka

You can either

Clip the materials layer (if that's what you are using) to the object layer.

or

Ctrl click the object layer to load it as a selection, and add a layer mask to the materials layer

If this a more complex object like a cube with shading, then might have to add the shading manually, and possibly use separate material layers to each facet, and adjust their shading.

If you can be more specific, and maybe provide a screenshot of the object and tell us how you wish to change its 'surface' then you'll get a better answer.

Thank you very much for the tip about the material layers. They are good for straight surfaces. However, I would like to be able to edit all types of surfaces. Even round or organic ones. I was able to do this in Firefly. Now I'm wondering where the limits of Photoshop beta are. For example, if I enter the prompt “cover surface of object with snakeskin” when generating, it changes the entire image and simply puts a snake in it. Is there a better way to transform surfaces into other materials, or is Photoshop beta just not the right tool?

Here are some examples of material changement in firefly. The starting point is a modeled object made of clay. In firefly there is the option of a composition reference. Depending on the setting, the generation adheres more or less strictly to the shape (composition) of the original image. I wish I could do something similar in PS Beta.

AFAIK you would need to model these shapes in a 3D app like Blender (which is free) and apply the surface texture with something like the Adobe Substance apps, which are not free.  Some 3D shapes, like cylinders would probably be doable using Transform > Warp > Cylinder to wrap the texture around a cylindrical shape.

The Warp > Cylinder option was added a couple of years ago, and was a game changer. It wraps a texture around the object .   The texture layer is clipped to the cylinder shape.

Manually shade the object and you are done.

3D renders are going to be better every time though.
