Question

Painting out a mask with the Brush tool is slow in Photoshop Beta

When I create a sky replacement, I like to brush out part of the foreground changes that Sky Replacment makes. So, I create a mask and start brushing out unwanted changes in the foreground. In Photoshop 2024, this works well: brush, and a stroke is created in real time. However, in Photoshop Beta, the brush strokes lag behind. It's a significant enough slowdown to make me close the Beta and switch to Photoshop 2024 to finish the project.

Photoshop version: Beta 25.11 m2665

OS: Mac Sonoma 14.5

MacBook Pro 16-inch M1 Max, 64GB RAM, 1TB free SSD space

Is it only this specific use of the Brush tool that suffers from lag?

What is the document size in pixels?

BTW  I have been finding that the Sky Replace tool is remarkably good at selecting the sky.  I have used it to select sky or foreground even when not using the full Replace function because it works so well.

Yes, in my experience, this is the only specific use of the Brush tool that suffers from lag. The document size is 2270 pixels by 2240 pixels.

That's a great observation about how well the Sky Replacment tool selects the sky. You're so right: it does do a fantastic job.

I'm trying to think how this might be happening.

Do you edit the Sky layer mask, or add a new layer mask to the Sky Replacement group?

Or make the group a Smart Object and add a layer mask?

You are obviously not stressing your system at 2270 X 2250 pixels, unless someone has sneaked in and changed the units to mm or inches.  If you are not making a new layer mask for the group, at least try that.
