Pen tool inverting selections

My pen tool has started inverting the selections I make.  So instead of selecting the object I want it is inverting the selection and I am getting the background!  This is happening since I updated PS Beta.  I don't know if it is happening on the updated PS yet.  I don't recall changing any pen tool properties so can you help me find out what is happening please?

You have Mask Operations set to Subtract in the Options bar

You don't need to re do the path. Cmd drag a window to make all points go solid, and select Combine Shapes

Oh how embarrassingly simple!  I have never altered that option so it  must have happened in the uprade - maybe......

Thanks for your reply Trevor.

My number 1 Photoshop hero is Bert Monroy, who does the huge Times Square and Amsterdam images.  In Bert's video tutorials he will often have a tool do something unexpected, and it is invariably an Options Bar setting.  So when something similar happens to us normal Photoshop users, we can reassure ourselves that it is a good thing because it shows we are making the most of the program using advanced features.  So there you go.  You are now officially an expert! 🙂
