Photoshop Beta - Masking Tool Malfunction

It was working fine, ran and update and then it stopped working.

If you're working with a mask, usually black takes away and white brings back.

All I can say is white does not being back now.  xD

Anyway, moved over to Photoshop 2025 to escape this issue for now.

Check the layers Blend Mode.  Modes like Difference and Exclusion could skew what you'd expect to see.

As @Sameer K  has said, screenshots would probably show what is going on.  It would need to be full res, of your entire workspace with the layers panel visible, and the layer with the mask selected.

Thanks for the advice on what the problem could be.
I was obsessed with the layers panel and fiddling with things there, when all along it was the brush tool itself that had somehow changed mode.

This is sorted and I've made a note for future.
Hopefully this will help someone else who experiences the same issue.

Hey, @C0FF33_ZA. Welcome to the Photoshop (Beta) Community. I'll help you figure this out.

I've tried to recreate this & couldn't get it to behave as reported. Does it behave as mentioned after a specific set of steps? Also, please test and confirm if the issue appears with a specific file?

Please share a video & screenshots of the issue and the system info from Photoshop Help > System info > Copy and paste into a text document > Upload and attach here.

Thanks!

Sameer K
