PS Beta 27.1 wont boot!

I've just updated to PS Beta 27.1 and I've attempted to export a file from LR 15.0 as a smart object and PS wont boot. I get a pop up stating 'preparing smart object' and nothing happens. I've had to shut PS via Task Manager. I've rebooted twice and still have the same issue so I guess its back to the previous version of PS Beta for the time being?

Edit: I've since rolled back to PS Beta 27.01 and thats working fine.

Anyone from Adobe care to comment please?

Update

Hi Cory, I tried it once again. It didn't work. Neithr from LrC nor from Bridge. Last night was an update by Apple for MacOS 26. I,  I deleted Photoshop Beta and Bridge Beta again. Deleted as well all files in the library. Updated MacOS 26.1 and afterwards installed Photoshop Beta again. Now it works. I hope it might help someone.

Hi Cory, I just ried to open a psd-file. It doesn't. Same result opening a cannon-raw file from Bridge Beta. I didn' use LrC

Hi everyone, sorry it has taken a while to respond... MAX took our attention last week.

In testing here we are able to open LrC and then take a RAW file and select Edit in Ps Beta and the latest Ps Beta launches and the file opens: Adobe Photoshop Version: 27.1.0 20251101.m.3279 b1a632e arm64 (beta, PublicBeta)

Then we take the same RAW file and select open SO in Photoshop and again Ps Beta launches and the SO opens.

Since more than one of you are having the same issue, Mac and PC, there must be a similar workflow or issue that is causing this.

The first thing to try is to delete Ps Beta and do a clean install, then make sure LrC has Ps Beta set as your external editor. Next, open any file in Ps Beta from LrC, does it work?  If so, then try the SO workflow, does it work?

Please share your steps, systeminfo and any screenshots so we can try to determine why it is not working as expected.

Thanks,

Cory - Photoshop Product Manager

Cory,

Happy to advise a clean install of PS Beta 27.1 has cleared this issue on Windows too. Exporting a file as a Smart Object has just booted 27.1 without issue so this can be regarded as closed I'd say?

Thanks

Hi,
I can't open a photo as a smart object.
Photoshop freezes during the conversion.

Regards.

P.S.:

It seems paradoxical, but when I have previously opened a jpeg in Photoshop Beta, then I can open a smart object from Lightroom or directly from a file.

Currently your only option is to roll back PS Beta to the previouse version, 27.01 which doesn't have this issue. You roll back via the CC app if you're unaware?

This issue first got raised a week ago now and its clear from other posts the problem is present across both Windows and Mac systems yet Adobe staff have yet to even acknowledge the problem which is disappointing to put it mildly!

I am experiencing the same problem.  I removed the app and reinstalled the program and I still cannot access the beta version

i have a psd file as template with smart objects and i won't load the file. Went back to 27.0.1 and have no issues. Hopefully it will be fixed fast

Agreed! The Beta apps are rely on user feedback before they can be included as new features in the mainstream apps and when users report an issue, at the very least Adobe should acknowledge the report so users can see they've been heard. The timescale to fix the issue is a secondary issue as people wont mind waiting for the correct fix once the initial problem has been acknowledged.

If Adobe start ignoring bug reports on their Beta apps, their customers will stop using the Beta versions, its that simple!

It's a shame that nobody from adobe cares about. I returned to 27.0.1 as well.

Anytime i drag and drop a RAW file from Bridge/Lightroom Classic or Finder into another open file in Photoshop Beta 27.1.0, Camera RAW opens, i click OK, file apprears on top of my currently-opened file with transformation active, and once i press Enter or click the checkmark to Commit transform, Photoshop freezes.
