Request: Enhanced Brush Settings

Hello Adobe Photoshop team!

I have a request. I would love enhanced brush settings for brushes. Things like being able to control how much your brush multiplies if you have the brush set to multiply, edges/brush getting darker the more pressure you add, etc. I've been working to make paint style brushes, and they are very close but there's small things that would make them just that much better if it were possible in brush settings.

Happy to give visual examples if needed.

Hi Shauna.   Do you know if this is possible with other apps?  Krita has a decent brush engine, but I am no expert with it.

Examples of what your proposed brush strokes might look like would be interesting.

Could layer styles with Fill Opacity set to zero do what you have in mind?  From a quick play I am getting unexpected results. Pressure size does exactly what you expect if you set a Stroke layer style, but pressure opacity does creates the expected brush stroke without any layer style stroke.  I am unable to effect the stroke opacity at all.

Upper squiggle pressure opacity, lower squiggle pressure size.

Layer styles are not going to help me thinks.

I got some possibly interesting results using the vertical oval with double gradient as a preset.

Center zig zag pressure size. Right zig zag both pressure size and opacity.  Brush spacing 10%

I had to take a second stab at this reducing the centre of the preset close to full white and still got a denser center than I expected.

OK, I wondered if brush spacing would affect the central density, and I think it does.

This is with spacing set to 20%

I'm going to stop now in case I am getting it completely wrong.  I've spent a lot of time messing with Photoshop's brush engine, so I'm obviously interested.  After reading your post, I think I'll try and learn the Krita brush engine better than I do — which right now is is not very much.
