Smart Sharpen produces blocky streaks

After using Generative fill to extend an image I merged down that layer and attempted "Smart Sharpen"  This produces a breakup of the image into random blocky streaks

    Hi @toadovision could you share some images or screenshots of what you are seeing, as well as your workflow.

     

    It may help if we could see your Photoshop System Info. Launch Photoshop, and select Help >System Info...and copy/paste the text in a reply.
