Tif loses layers

Hey there,

following problem is new to me.

I exported a raw from lightroom to Photoshop beta, after that i edited the file in photoshop and created several layers for colors, contrast, frequency separation and so on.

After finalising the image i saved the file, closed photoshop and the tif is automaticly imported in lightroom.

When i re open the tif from lightroom in photoshop, everything is fine an all is shown as the file was saved.

After 1-2 days i open lightroom, doing the exactly same procedure and the tif is imported in photoshop like a new file and all layers are gone, but the tif has all it´s edits i did in the layers.

But where is it gone?

It´s annoying because i wanted to copy some color edit´s from a layer to another picture.

This is not possible now 😞

You are using Lightroom Desktop (7.0). It behaves differently than Lightroom Classic (Which has the aforementioned dialog).

In Lightroom Desktop, if you edit a file in PS, it returns as a Tiff. As long as you don't touch any adjustments in LrD, it will reopen the file in PS with Layers intact. If you touch any adjustments in LrD after it comes back from PS, it will then flatten the file on subsequent trips to PS.  That is expected behavior.

I hope that helps.

Thank you for the update @Christian_Drost does this happen in Ps release as well, is this just in beta that you see this issue?

It may help if we could see your Photoshop System Info. Launch Photoshop, and select Help >System Info...and copy/paste the text in a reply.

Also, what is the version of Lr are you using?

Tried to de-install the photoshop beta and use the current photoshop 2024 version. Infos are below.

Now nothing works anymore....

When i now select the tif in lightroom and click on edit in photoshop. it tries to open it in photoshop ( small bar in the upper left in lightroom shows no progress ) and says after a minute that the file can not be opened in photoshop.

Lightroom-Version: 7.0 x64 [ 20230927-2320-8b251c5 ] (Sep 28 2023)

Hi @Christian_Drost which choice did you chose when opening the TIF in Ps?  Options 2 and 3 will preserve the edits, option 1 will not.

Hey Cory,

when i re-open the file on the same day i don´t have to choose an option, i select the tif in lightroom, click on edit in photoshop and it is exactly opened with all layers, no option required.

A day later, when i do the same procedure it askes me to convert is into my workspace color range S-RGB once again ( what makes no sense because i did this when i imported the file the first time into photoshop ).

I tried, option 1-leave the colorspace like it is and option 2 to convert it once again. Both options don´t work.

Please go to Help>System Info… and provide us the exact installed version number of your Lightroom software.
