Just like described in the subject, worked perfectly until I updated today and now the GPU fails.

Same problem here - Camera Raw worked fine until April 2026 update. Now when editing a single 45mp image there is excessive GPU memory usage, culminating in a 'graphics processor out of memory' error.  I am using a GeForce 5070TI with 16gb RAM.

@MrWinnieThePooh  If you are running Win just download 18.1.1 from the link below and run it locally, it overwrites 18.3. This is an Adobe affiliate site, it’s safe and I have used it when I run into problems with updates.

Thanks for the link, I will try the ‘downgrade’ and hopefully it will fix the problem. It does appear that the ‘graphics processor out of memory error’ is a new problem introduced by Camera Raw 18.3. I have done a bit more investigation of the circumstances of the problem, here is what I observed:

    • I am using Camera Raw 18.3.0.2528 with either Photoshop 2026 27.6.0.11 or Photoshop Beta 27.7.0.3521, running on Windows 11 Pro 25H2. The problem occurs whichever version of Photoshop I am using.
    • Hardware is Intel Ultra 7 265K with 192Gb RAM and Asus GeForce RTX 5070Ti with 16Gb RAM - so GPU memory should not be a problem.
    • I am editing a single Raw Image (a 45Mp NEF file from a Nikon Z8).
    • When I use ‘Select Subject’ followed by  some operation such as increasing Sharpness, GPU memory immediately jumps to almost 16Gb (100%) and GPU processor usage remains high for many minutes. If I attempt another masking operation such as ‘Duplicate and Invert Mask’ I immediately get ‘graphics processor out-of-memory error’.
    • After 5-10 minutes the GPU processor usage drops and GPU  memory usage drops to almost 8Gb (50%). I am then able to perform another masking operation, such as ‘Duplicate and Invert Mask’. The high GPU processor and memory usage problem then reoccurs.
    • This is completely new behaviour introduced by one of the latest Photoshop Updates (I can’t pinpoint exactly which one) - before that everything worked fine.

Current release of Raw, updated on 4.16.26 when using the masking tool. Worked perfectly until the application updated and there are no issues with other applications.

    Fails in which way?

Sorry @StefanKlein  but I responded to my own post with a response to you question. I would add that I am also running the Beta which appeared to be the challenge in concert with the new version of Camera RAW. I went back to using the standard released version 27.5.0 and the challenge appears to be resolved.

For what it’s worth I consistently viewed the GPU usage and when I received the error the usage was less than 12% on my RTX 4070 Super and the drivers are up to date.
