Question

Why Still No WebP Export?

It’s been 4 years since the Photoshop WebP announcement. Why do we still not have WebP as an option in Export As? Adobe Illustrator has it. Ugh.

You're right — I checked again and WebP isn't in the Export As list either; that was my mistake, sorry about the runaround. The reliable path in the release build is File > Save a Copy with the document in RGB 8-bit mode. One gotcha: if the document is in grayscale, WebP disappears from the format dropdown entirely — Image > Mode > RGB Color brings it back. Thanks for keeping me honest.

In the release build, WebP export is under File > Export > Export As (and Save As offers it too, as long as the document is RGB at 8-bit depth). If you're not seeing it in the Beta, first make sure you're on the latest Beta build, then report it through the Beta feedback channel — that's exactly what the program is for. Worth noting AVIF still isn't in Photoshop at all, Beta or release.

I don’t know where you are getting your information from. Yes, I’m on the latest beta. And no, WebP is not an export option in Save As, even at 8-bit RGB. See for yourself…

Fair point — you're right, and I was sloppy with the wording. Photoshop keeps WebP out of the plain Save As dialog even at 8-bit RGB (it treats it as a flattened export), so 'see for yourself' stands. The WebP option lives under File > Save a Copy instead — that's been there since 23.2 — and also in File > Export > Export As. Thanks for the correction; my original reply should have said Save a Copy, not Save As.
