I am making my sons 1st birthday milestone board and i heard this was the best app to use. However i do not know how to use it. i am stuck on how to make different shapes and add pictures etc. i also would like some advice on what size i should make the template and the size of the text so i can have it printed out on a poster board 22x28 or something like that. I would like to make it look like the photo. Thanks!!

Hi

My first question would be - do you have access to Adobe Illustrator. That is the best app to construct a board like that.

If not, and you are committed to using Photoshop, you need to work in layers (imagine each layer as a sheet of transparent plastic on which you can draw). Layers can contain shapes, text, images (such as photos) and can be moved around and resized till you get your wanted output.

You can add shapes with the shape tools (these will be fully resizable) and a good range of custom shapes is included.

Text is added with the text tool and can be transformed and warped as required

Drawings can be done with a pencil and brush (good) or better for this type of poster is to use the pen tool which actually draws a "path" not a real line - then you stroke the path with a brush to add the pixels.

As far as size if you prepare your image at 22 x 28 and 150 ppi (set these in image size) it will be fine to print.

After all that , my first recommendation stands - if you have access to Illustrator - use that.
