3.38 GB tiff file opens in several pieces of software but Photoshop says it can't parse it.

 

Any idea what I can do?

I opened the file in Preview (I'm on a mac) and saved it as a png file and then Photoshop opened it fine.  The file I was trying to open had been resized by gigapixel.

I was thinking in terms of a layered file. For a flat file that does the trick. Ok, solved.

I'm presuming that the PSD had layers? Is your other software opening with layers, or just the flattened composite?

You can see if your software will allow you to save or export the file in PSB (Large Document format). Then Photoshop should open it.
