3D Texture on 3D Models on Photoshop

Hi everyone

I posted about this topic here: https://community.adobe.com/t5/photoshop/depth-maps-on-extrusions-edit-photoshop-cc/m-p/11189779?page=1#M337507

But I fear that I used the wrong words and didn't exactly explain properly what I was on about!

Basically, I I have a letter I, I've extruded it into a 3D model, I've applied a texture material to all sides, but what I want to know is how can that texture be 3d, and stand out on all surfaces, rather than just be flat? Then be able to export it as a 3D model for use in anitmation software.

Thanks in advance!

Hi

In Photoshop you can simulate surface depth by feeding your greyscale map into the bump map property, but that does not actually change the mesh at all. So the render may look as if it has depth but the edges will always look flat.

If you want to displace the actual mesh you will need to use a 3D application (e.g. Blender) to displace the surface then save the mesh with that displacement applied.
