A gift horse

Hello people,

I hope I can ask stupid questions?

I got a CS2 Photoshop from somebody. It's one of those free downloads Adobe gave away a few years ago. This person fiddled a bit with it and then gave it to me. And you know about not looking a gift horse in the mouth...

I tried to put one of my drawings on the workplace, tried to color it, but all I see is gray. Foreground dark gray, background pale gray. If I click on it, I see the panel with the colors, I pick one, go "OK", but when I try it it's still gray. In the "color" tab I have a colored base bar, but a gray slide bar. No matter what I do, I can't make any colors appear, it stays in grayscale. How do I get colors?

I have no experience with PHS at all. I'm trying to learn, but this way it's not easy!

Please will someone lend a hand?

Thanks...

Try Menu->Image->Mode->RGB Color.

I suspect that Grayscale mode is set there.

Adobe did not give it away.

It was available (on the honor system) to those who purchased it and were unable to reinstall it after the activation servers were shut down.

In other words: You are using the software illegally.

Oh, that person definitely had a purchased Creative Suite, he's a professional artist, don't worry. He had been owning it for many years already, before any of us had an idea what photoshop was all about.

Well, that's not what you said here:

"I got a CS2 Photoshop from somebody. It's one of those free downloads Adobe gave away a few years ago. This person fiddled a bit with it and then gave it to me."

Granted, CS2 is so old and totally useless by now that I doubt anyone really cares all that much. But just so you know, this is not legal software. The license is strictly personal and could never be "given away" without a license transfer.

On a different note, Photoshop has never been free or given away. A few years ago Adobe made it available to download , for those who already had a paid license for CS when CS could no longer be downloaded. There is also a process for transferring a license. If either of the above is not followed then what you are using is unlicensed software.

Ah!  😄

Indeed it was.

This is what you have to learn before you start. I have a book, but it's not much help... All I want to do is color my drawings, not fiddle with photographs. The book is full of stuff about fiddling with photographs.

Thanks a lot! I'm afraid I'll come and bother you some more, once I've gotten started...
