Action on PS 2022. "Save AS" or "Save a copy" changes the file name

I'm using Photoshop 23.3.2 on windows 11.
I have build an action (a new version of an old one, fully experimented and implemented during the years) which ends with "Save As" .
While in the past it was showing in the filename field the name of the file just edited, now it shows the name of the file used to record the action.
Let say that the name of the file used to record the action was ABCD_1234.NEF.
Going to edit the file XYZW_56768 , before  PS 22.4  when I  reached the "save AS" step,  the filename field was displaying XYZW_56768. but with the file type .jpg.
PERFECT
Now, editing XYZW_56768  with this version, when I reach the "Save As" step, the filename field shows ABCD_1234.jpg .
The same happens if I substitute in the action "Save As" with "Save Copy"
I need that, when editing XYZW_56768.nef with my action, after the "save As" step, the filename field shows XYZW_56768.jpg
Thanks for your help

@Giorgio Scala – I don't believe that this is a bug. As Jeff's image indicates, there are two ways to record the action save step (plus a third option, below).

If you don't change the filename, only the path is recorded.

If you do change the filename, then both the path and filename are recorded.

By "checking/ticking" the modal control icon next to the recorded action step, the dialog will pop up offering the ability to override the recorded settings.

Rather than recording, one can also use the Actions panel options menu to "insert a menu command" and just insert a generic "save as" step which will not record any file format, save path or save name parameters.

The modal control icon is already checked and yes, it offers the chance of changing the name, but it's exactly what I want to avoid, since it make me lose a lot of time. In the past, it was keeping the name of the edited file.

It would help if you posted a screenshot of the action, with the save step expanded and the panel wide enough to view the entire entry.

Here's a screenshot of a save as action recorded using photoshop 2022 (23.2.3) on windows 11 and i don't see the name of the document recorded.

Can you post a screenshot of your action?
