Question

adjusting opacity of a video layer

When I adjust the opacity of my video layer and then try to draw in a layer above it, the lower layer (with adjusted opacity) takes a very long time to adjust to its opacity, slowly moving from pale checkerboard to its correct setting.  my work around is to start drawing in the upper layer  (drawing layer) and then click that drawing layer off and on again, and then the lower layer will have populated with the correct opacity.  is there another solution?

    Hi

I don't recognise that behaviour. The two things I would check are:

    1. Have you altered the opacity of the lower layer or keyframed the opacity. Keyframing is designed to change the value over time.

    2. In preferences performance try checking "Legacy compositing"

If neither work can you post a video of the screen showing this behaviour and include all panels and the layer stack. Also post the full info about your version of Photoshop and your system.

Better to use the ideal environment to deal with video footage, Adobe After effects or premiere
