Adjustment layer editting glitch

When I double click an adjustment layer (such as levels, curves, etc.) to edit the properties, nothing happens. I am unable to edit it. If I leave Photoshop (for instance by clicking on the desktop) and come back into it, only then is the Properties window open and editable.

Photoshop 21.2.4.

I am on an iMac running system 10.14.6.

I forgot to add that I uninstalled and re-installed Photoshop and that did not fix the problem.

I switched my workspace from Graphic/Web to Photography and the problem went away.

In addition, pay attention to where you are (horizontally) on the layer when you double-click. To edit an adjustment layer, you need to be on the icon on the far left. Alternatively, you can select the layer, then open the Properties panel (Window menu).
