adjustment layer mask

When I select an adjustment layer I do not automatically get a layer mask. I can add the mask manually but there are many times where I wish it would just appear. What should I to to get the mask to appear automatically?

You have probably change Adobe default in the Adjustment Panels fly-out menu item setting. Changing Either of the two from the Adobe default is asking Photoshop to work in a abnormal way. Adobe added this problem in CS4. They work more like prefemces than options and Photoshop does not always behave like they are set like they are set. Like Jame pointed out above. Leave them alone.

Hi

If you make a selection on the layer first, the adjustment layer will automatically get a layer mask.
