Question

Adobe, when are you going to fix the bug in PhotoshopCC18 that corrupts files?

I spent an entire day yesterday working on a file that wasn't very large compared to other files I've worked on and was unable to reopen it for further edits after saving it. It was saved as a .psd file. This is the error message I received: Could not complete your request because of a program error. Quitting photoshop and restarting the computer did not work.

Earlier in the day yesterday, every single screenshot ( .png) file that I opened was fragmented with horizontal white stripes and only some of the channels showing.

Quitting out of photoshop and starting it up again helped, but I can't keep doing that everytime.

I never uninstalled CS6 when I upgraded to CC so I decided to try to open the file using that. It sort of worked. I had to flatten the file in the process of opening the file in CS6 but I WAS ABLE TO OPEN IT! I just hope my client doesn't want any changes because then I have to start over.

YOU NEED TO FIX THIS BUG!!! I only had this happen to one file, but I've been seeing posts by other people that have had this happen to many files and have had the same issue with the PNG files. This is affecting our workflow. I'm on a tight deadline, so I don't even have time to try to do some of the things I've seen suggested and the file repair software available on line is not in my budget. I've been using Photoshop for 25 years and never experienced anything like this.

I installed the latest upgrade last night, version 19.1.2  Does this update have the bug fixed?

Until I am sure of that, I'm going to go back to CS6 for this project. I'm too scared to have more files go bad.

    Boilerplate-text:

What have you done for trouble-shooting so far?

Restoring Preferences after making sure all customized presets like Actions, Patterns, Brushes etc. have been saved might be a good starting point:

YOU NEED TO FIX THIS BUG!!!

Who do you think you are screaming at?

This is a user Forum, so you are not really addressing Adobe here, even though some Adobe employees thankfully have been dropping by.

Does this update have the bug fixed?

Hard to tell, the distorted display of pngs was addressed.

As for psd-files: Do you work locally or across a network?

I'm here because there is no place on this website to address Adobe directly. I ended up messaging Adobe on Facebook of all places to get answers. They did try to help and guess what they then asked me to do? Post my issues to this forum!

Anyway, I don't work across a network, I work locally.
