AI files with transparent background...

There are a bunch of pics on Adobe Stock with transparent background for things like smoke or glitter. But when I download the ai files and open them in photoshop, the blocks indicating the transparent background become part of the picture and move with the smoke or glitter effect. I tried removing them with the magic wand and delete but because the effects are so fine, it doesn't completely get rid of the blocks or removes too much of the effect. Is there a way of opening the ai files, keeping the transparency parts intact?

Correct Supported file formats in Photoshop

.AI file are not supported by Photoshop they do open as layered documents in Photoshop, If you Place them into Photoshop as smart Object layers you I would think that if you have Illustrator installed that you could open the AI object in Illustrator work on the layers and when you commit the changes with a save in Illustrator that Photoshop would update the pixels rendered for the layers object.  I do not install Illustrator,

I agree with JJMack. In Photoshop use File > Place to place your AI files and choose Smart Object as the placement method.
