Question

Align Selection Marquee/Scale/Rotate to View

Just found out there's a way to rotate the canvas view while working in Photoshop.  Very cool!

However, once the view is rotated and you draw a selection marquee or try to scale said selection, they are both still aligned to the original orientation.  Is there a way to draw the the selection marque relative to the current rotated view, and then subsequently have the scale handles aligned to the current view as well?

As far as I can tell: No.

The rotated view is just that: A view/display of the document.

Selection and Shape Tools work in relation to the document, not its rotated display.

What is the actual scenario here?

Why do you need create rotated selections?

Might rotating a Smart Object instead of rotating the view be an option?

Thanks for the feedback c.pfaffenbichler

I was working on this problem with another guy on Friday and here's a video I made for him to illustrate what I'm trying to do and what the issue is.

A legitimate use-case … unfortunately the only work-around I could think of would be fairly involved (Selection with Polygonal Lasso Tool, Layer via Copy, convert to Smart Object, Group, counter-rotate by the viewing angle, invoke a Free Transform on the Group).

This could be Scripted.
