Align specific letters with individual boxes

Hey!

I want to make a Split-flap display style piece of media. Images show what that is for those who do not know. I simply made small text boxes and now I want to align text automatically to fit in each box and keep it like that when I change the text. I want to do this without having to align each individual letter as a separate text item each time.

Is there a way to do this? I don't mind if there is a totally different process to get there with the boxes etc. Any help is appreciated!

Could you please post a screenshot with the pertinent Panels (Toolbar, Layers, Character, Options Bar, …) visible?

There are fonts in which all letters run equally wide but otherwise I guess you may have to use a multitude of individual Type Layers (with »Center Text«-alignment).

Photoshop is just not the greatest choice for sophisticated type handling.
