Alt key and new adjustment layer are not working

Up until recently if I held the Alt-Key down and clicked on the adjustment layer icon at the bottom of the layers panel I would get a dialog that allowed me to name the layer and preset a blend mode.  Now if I hold the alt-key down I cannot even bring up the menu of adjustment layers.  As a matter of fact if I open the adjustment drop down list without the alt-key and then press the alt-key the list disappears from the screen.  Is there a setting or something else wrong with my system?

Correct answer PECourtejoie

I am having the same issue.  Watching a tutorial that says to "alt-click". but it doesn't work.  If I hold the right mouse button down then it does work.

Hello, it seems to be a function of Windows 10. I checked in many software, or just within windows itself, and the ALT key seems to trigger the closing of a drop down menu.

I found no way to disable that behavior.

Indeed, the ALT+right-click seems to be a fix for our issue...

Are you on Windows? I can confirm problem which you are experiencing on Win 10 using latest and greatest Ps. By the way, it works when using Layer menu and Adjustments panel as already suggested.

Zdravo, Bojan, It is not clear if you confirm that it works as expected, or if you are facing the same issue as Paulfree7.

Wouldn’t using the Adjustments Panel be easier than raising the pop-up menu anyway?

For me (21.1.1 on manOS 10.15.3) alt-clicking the Adjustment Layer icon in the Layers Panel and the clicking  »Curves« in the pop-up menu for example will raise the »New Layer« dialog window.

What have you done for trouble-shooting so far?

I would also restart Photoshop as the first thing.

If it does not work, maybe zip your preferences folder to create a new one, and see if it changes something.

It seems to work if I hold down the alt-button and right click the mouse.  If I hold down alt and left click the mouse the adjustment menu disappears.  Now must tutorials state that Alt-click should do the trick.  I am wondering if somehow my right and left mouse buttons got reversed.
