Layer with mask made from a channel. Great. Done.

Now, I altered the mask with the brush tool to hide a few more lines. Great.

Now I duplicate the layer and the mask. A new layer.

I then invert mask on the new layer.

Here is the problem.

The little touch ups on the mask and inverting the new layer mask .

For some reason the touch ups do not translate to the new mask.  I touch them up again, but why will they not translate when inverted

Just a puzzle I cannot figure out!!

Wait!! Maybe I answered my own question.  I get it.  I took out the K in the mask for the line are, but it is still there in the color layer.  Ok, I get it now.  Sorry to waste your time, but you did make me think!!

I'm wondering if you had the thumbnail of the image selected instead of the mask when you made the edits.

If you select the layer mask on the original layer and Ctrl (Windows) / Command (macOS) + click on it in the Layers panel, Photoshop will load the selection. You'll be able to see marching ants outlining what should be part of the mask.

This sounds so crazy but if you look the 'K' in the comp screen should not be showing.  Its a puzzle that's driving me crazy!!  The mask on this layer is an inverse of the line layer, which eliminated the K.
