Any Recent Version of Photoshop Has Become Unuseable

I updated to the latest version last week, but it kept crashing on me after a few minutes using the lasso tool. Uninstalled it and tried an earlier version, but as soon as I opened a second file, Photoshop literally starts working in slow motion. Keep in mind that both files are smaller than 30mb each. No matter what version I install now it has the same lagging issue.

I have an 8700K, with 32GB RAM, a 2080Ti, an m.2 SSD for Windows, a SATA SSD for the files. Please don't walk me through the usual troubleshooting steps cause I've done it all including:

- Completely removed the Creative Cloud using the uninstaller Adobe itself provides

- Uninstalled Photoshop completely

- Tried older versions

- Purged cache

- Started without plug-ins

- Reset preferences both via dialog box and by manually going to the folder and deleting the file

- Disabled GPU

- Updated GPU driver

- Updated Wacom tablet driver

- Updated Windows

- Even went as far as doing a clean Windows 10 install

Task Manager shows normal hardware usage when Photoshop starts slowing down and it's the only app I have installed that has this issue.

Adobe really needs to stop pushing all of these stupid new features and focus on getting the software back to the same level of performance it once had.

I'm having the same issue!!! Ever since the update in October 2020, all the subsequent updates have been making Photoshop slower and slower.  Now I can barely run Photoshop at all, and I use it daily for work.  Nothing I do seems to make it better. Also, I'm ONLY having this issue with Photoshop, not with Premiere or Illustrator.

Computer Specs:

Windows 10 Pro - Current Updates

i9-9900

64gb RAM

GeForce RTX 2080 Super

I've given Ps everything I can, as in allowing it to use 84% of my RAM, complete use of my RTX 2080, and maxed the cache. Nothing helps. I went back as far as I can in available versions, but even 21.2.5 barely functions.  WHAT IS WRONG???

Still, some of us can't resist... you say you've tried going back to an older version - presumably the version you were using immediately before you upgraded. And it's bad too. And it wasn't bad before? Or was it? If it went bad, doesn't that point at a hardware or system fault.

I did. I've tried 4 different versions at this point. Before the issue kicked in, I was using the previous version to the latest one that just came out. It was working fine until suddenly it wasn't. That's when everything started. I tried updating to the latest version and a second separate issue came up: it crashes everytime I use the lasso tool and my workflow is pretty much based on lasso tool, paint bucket and brushes. So I reverted back to two prior versions, crashes were gone, slow downs persisted.

I'm sure it's not hardware fault. Every other app I have installed work fine, even other Adobe ones like Audition and Premiere. But to make sure I was on top of things, I ran mdsched for memory issues, nothing came up. I ran stress tests on my processor with a bunch of different instruction sets using Intel's official tool, nothing came up. Benchmarked all of my HDDs and SSDs with <5GB sample file sizes and checked the health on each individual drive, everything looks good. GPU is fine too. Hardware issues are not the culprit.

yet you say it works fine with your wife's computer. no issues.

compare your rig vs hers.

if you have already reinstalled Windows, then the culprit might be the file you are editing. have you tried editing a different file?

if you edit the same problem file on another computer, does that computer also exhibit the same problem?

Happens with any file. On my wife's computer it runs fine.

right. last attempt, on a freshly installed (of Windows with all patches plus PhotoShop only) computer but this time only PhotoShop installed.

it would be best if you can install also from a fresh download of PhotoShop CC 2021.
