Question

Are my Actions Gone? Are the files stored somewhere?

Hello, thanks ahead of time for your help. I was having Photoshop issues, contacted Adobe Support, they told me that they had to Reset my Preferences, which they walked me thru doing. The GOOD NEWS is that it fixed the problem. The BAD NEWS is that the Adobe Support person apparently didn't think it worthwhile to tell me that with whatever steps he took that it was going to wipe out all the Actions from my Actions Palette. Some Actions that I had ATN files for I can find and reload, but so far, it seems as though any individual Actions that I wrote/recorded are gone now? Or when you write/record an action is it perhaps stored somewhere in some Adobe folder area?

That would be hours worth of time lost if all those Actions are gone now, plus some of them I wrote/recorded over the years while finding interesting "How To" tutorials online. So I'm really hoping they are perhaps somewhere on my computer.

IF they are toast, for my future reference is there a way to SAVE an Action when you write one? Also if they are toast. then I'd say a shout out to Adobe Support Tech's are in order to perhaps mention to customers when the Support Actions are going to delete all of someone's Actions. It sure would have been nice to have been able to perhaps Save them somehow before the Adobe Tech did his thing.

One should manually save out each action set "folder" individually to an .atn file using the menu on the upper right of the action panel window.

The Actions Palette.psp file can often be used to migrate the entire panel/palette or to possibly retrieve unsaved actions. This is by no means a replacement for saving each Action Set as an individual .atn file.

"is there a way to SAVE an Action when you write one?"

After recording action save it using flyout menu. You can not save individual action but rather action set or folder. Good practice when recording actions is to create new action set if you do not have one for specific task like retouching. So create new action set or folder and name it Retouching actions. The next step is to create and record action like Frequency separation. After recording action test it. Slect action set Retouching actions then click on Actions panel menu and choose: Save actions. Save set anywhere you like. I will recommend to save on several online storage platforms to avoid any potential lost in the feature. Make it habit after each recorded action.
