Background colour change applies to foreground

Hi there,

 

It used to work just as fine until yesterday - the background colour I want to change gets applied to the entire image. Any ideas would be highly appreciated! 🙂

    And what is the cutout layer set to in terms of blending mode/ blending options? This looks like there might be some conditional blending involved.
