Question

Best way to combine two different types of grass with flowers?

Hi,

I have an assignment that requires me to blend these two different types of grass. I know this will require me to adjust the colors/add some adjustment layers, but I'm wondering what the best way to do this is. I also have to add grass around the cow's feet/make that look natural but I'm really stuck on merging these two grass layers.

I'll probably add some warm sun lighting and blurring in the background and around the grass, so it doesn't have to be a seamless blend but I want it to be close.

Thanks!

Pay attention to light sources.  Light sources much match or the composite looks odd.

Have a look at this color matching tutorial from piXimperfect:

Hope that helps.

Hi there,

Thanks for reaching out; we're here to help.

As you know, there are multiple ways to do it. Let me suggest an easy method to blend this picture so that the grasses in the foreground match the background.

Firstly, you can use masking on the Foreground layer and reveal the object (Cow) entirely, and with less opacity and fill, reveal the rest of the grass to give a less clear outcome. Once that is done, copy chunks of the foreground grass with the polygon lasso tool, place them correctly on the background layer, and blend the colors. Also, you can get random grass pieces from the background and merge them with the foreground.

Another way to do this is to use the clone stamp tool and mix the grasses accordingly and make it look like one picture.

Let us know if this helps.

Thanks.

If I were working on this project, I would individually add a few of the flowers mixing in small numbers to the nearest part of the plain grass, so that the flower field seems more a part of the background area.
