Bounding Box confusion

I'm transitioning from Elements into Photoshop CC, and having trouble with the basic bounding box when I try and transform objects. Sometimes it just resizes as "normal," but more often the boxes at each corner dramatically resize the object, or flip it, etc. I have a feeling this is a simple fix, but I can't find it. Thanks for your help!

How are you doing this?

Do you have the bounding box turned on in options?
Or are you using Edit > Free Transform (Cmd+T on Mac; Ctrl+T on Windows)?

There are other options you can get for Distort, Flip, etc., either by right-clicking after Cmd+T or by using the Edit menu.

Thank you Jane for the reply. Yes! I think it was as simple as keeping the bounding box turned on in options.
