Brand nee MacBook Pro, lagging while making simple image adjustments

Hello, I just purchased a 13" Macbook pro 13" (4 port model, 10th gen i5, 16 DDR4)
Photoshop seems to be running exactly as I expected in most areas however when I make simple adjustments to colour/hue/saturation photoshop locks up for several minutes.

I considered that it was potentially the file I was working on at the time but even during the tutorial image (adjusting jupitor in the astronaught) scene there was a huge pause in the software. Over two minutes, then evetually it gets back to working.

What's causing this issue? I honestly didn't expect my laptop to have these problems, it's less than a week old. Any advice? All background applications were stopped, almost fully clean laptop apart from word, lightroom and photoshop.

Which version of Photoshop and OS?

If you're running Catalina you need to use Photoshop 2020.

if you are running that spec and are still having issues, it might be worth resetting your Photoshop preferences, which you can do under the General tab in Photoshop preferences.
