Brushes in 2020version now look more sharp in 2021 version

I have photoshop 21.24 and version 22.11 on my PC. I noticed that the same brushes in the 21.24 version are different when used in the newer 22.11 version. The brushes that were once soft now have a sharper edge to them. I was wondering what could have changed to make this happen. 

In both versions the brushes are set to the same mode (normal) and have the same settings (including noise). These are the same brushes:

something has clearly changed in the newer photohsop but I don't know what or if it is something that can be changed back. 

Does anyone have any information about this?
