brushes keep changing properties

I've just started using custom brushes in CC 2020, I love the variety, but I'm confused about something and I can't find an answer for it anywhere- I'll use a brush that will blend colors, but the next time I use the same brush that feature is disabled, I'll use it again and all of a sudden it won't draw a continuous line. I've searched throughout the settings for what might be the issue, it must be a toggle option somewhere, but there doesn't seem to be anything causing the change to happen- all settings are the same, but what properties the brush holds is completely unpredictable.
