Brushes painting in black and white in RGB mode

I am using photoshop 20.0.4 on windows 7. Everything was working fine... but suddenly something changed and now the brushes are only painting in black and white.

The mode is RGB and I can fill images in colour. The brush mode is normal. The layer mode is normal too. I tried shutting down and opening photoshop again, tried a different colour profile and tried resetting the brush tool. Nothing has solved the issue... I have no idea what else I can do... I really would like not to uninstall if I don't have to.

If I use the Mixer brush tool it paints in colour...

Thanks,

Vered

Are you possibly targeting a layer mask thumbnail instead of the layer thumbnail within the Layers panel?

Hi Vered,

Sorry that you're brushes are painting in B&W.

Your document is in grayscale mode, where only gray values are possible.

Change the mode to RGB, CMYK, or LAB to use color from Image->Mode->RGB or just create the document in RGB by setting the mode to RGB when you create the new document.

Let us know how it goes.

Thanks,

Akash

As I pointed out - my issue was in RGB mode.... your answer isn't correct but thanks for trying to help. In the end resetting preferences resolved the issue but I have no idea what caused it.
