Question

•  Brushes settings  —  "Spacing" (with last fast Mac computer)

Hello -

Like many people (I presume), I have quite a few "brushes" in Photoshop.
Each brush having its own settings.
I've just bought a new MacBook PRO "M3", and I've noticed that due to the computer's speed, the brushes' behavior has changed (even though they have the same settings).
For example, all my brushes have a default "space" of 25.
With the new Mac, these spaces are very pronounced (unlike with my old computer).

My question is, is there a way to change the "space" option for each brush and re-save the settings?
I don't know, maybe they're stored in an .XML file that I could modify?

Thank you, have a nice day

- Dimitri

AFAIK you have to save them as new presets with Include Tool Settings checked.

Drag the new presets into a new group, and export the group from the Brushes panel which will create a new .abr file.

Photoshop will remember changes to individual brush presets so long as the containing group is not removed/deleted from the main Brushes panel window.  Reopening a closed group from the Brushes panel drop down menu will obviously go back to the settings when the .abr file was created.

I'm trying to think of a way to set the spacing of the currently selected brush preset with a shortcut.  I can't think how it could be done with an Action, but maybe with a script.  I love having shortcuts for things like Make Smart Object, Rasterize layer, and Trim Image.  It's so much faster than right clicking and looking down the list for the command you need.  So would a shortcut to set brush spacing help at all?

Hi Teevor -

Thanks for your reply.

I understand your trick, but it remains a trick  not a solution.

So if I understand well, there is no way to modify that "space" setting directly into the .ABR file?

Thank you, enjoy your day.

It's not a trick or a workaround.  It's just the way the Brush Engine works.  You wouldn't expect to break into the .abr files. You'd have to open them, edit the contained presets and save them as new presets; place them in a new group and export as a new .abr file.

Have a look at BrushBox and try contacting its creator  Derrick Barth (I've just PM'd you his email address)

There's another one called Brusherator.  I have his email address if you want it.
