How to reproduce:

a) create 100+ images

b) File/Scripts/Load Files into Stack

c) Create Frame Animation

d) Load Frames into Layers

- depending on luck between 65 and 99 layers end up as frames. It's broken in 23.0.2 and 23.0.1.

Interesting. Are you on Monterey?

I think I was able to identify the root cause. If I try to load files into stack just after starting Photoshop, the results are random. Sometimes it loads 63 files. Sometimes it loads 99 files. Sometimes it loads 120 files. But it never loads all files. But if I start Photoshop, create a new project and then load files into stack, it loads all the files. It seems to be repeatable and it seems to happen both in 2022 and 2021 versions I tested. Not sure if it has anything to do with Mac's iCloud folders - I made sure all files I want to load were on the local drive, but the folder was inside "Documents" so it gets synchronized to iCloud.

Anyway, I found a way to get this done so it's no longer critical. Just a nuisance. Wonder if it has anything to do with the Mac OS X version as it seems to start happening after I upgraded to the latest one.

Seems to work here.

  1. I chose Load Files into Stack, clicked Choose in the dialog and selected 602 JPEGs on my harddrive, hit OK. 602 layers were created.
  2. In the Timeline panel, created a Frame Animation
  3. Chose Make Frames from Layers

Ended up with a 602 frame animation.

Perhaps it's something specific to do with the set of files you're working with?

The same issue exists in 22.5.3
