Hi,

I have a problem saving my images in jpg format.  Can you help?

Correct answer Stephen Marsh

I design wedding invitations on POD products and also use the jpg for web.  I also need to have my designs in png format.  I never had a problem with these before, there was always a "save a copy" drop down for various outputs.

Please confirm if your document is/was set to Image > Mode > 32 Bits/Channel (the clue was that your save dialog was showing HDR formats).

Good point of difference Nancy!

Export As is obviously performing a Exposure 0.00 and Gamma 1.00 HDR tone mapping step from 32 bpc beforehand, which is the safest option if one doesn't care about mapping the "latent" HDR tones to SDR. This isn't performed by Save a Copy or Legacy Save As.

Which raises the question, why is the file in 32 bpc mode in the first place?

My file was not HDR to begin with.  Seems like the problem is resolved anyway and is now working properly.  I truly don't know why this happened.

Hi jackies29691243,

please elaborate - what problem are you facing exactly? Do you e.g. receive an error message while saving?

Best regards,

Maurice

Ok, I already have saved my work in psd format, I want to save a copy of the same in jpg and the drop down does not give me the option.  Here are the only options:

You either need to use Save a Copy or setup Legacy Save As in your File Handling Preferences.

JPEG is a restrictive format, it doesn't support layers, alpha channels or bit depths higher than 8 bits per channel (bpc).

It appears that you are using 32 bpc mode. If so and you wish to keep this, then you will need to duplicate the image, select 8 bpc mode and tone map (HR toning) as required. 32 bpc is an exception, if using 16 bpc Save a Copy or Legacy Save As would have JPEG available as going from 16 bpc to 8 bpc doesn't require tone mapping and can be automated without human intervention.
