Can't convert layers to smart object Adobe Photoshop CC 2019

Hello, so i've been trying to reduce noise in some astrophotography photos I took the other day in death valley and when I load them into photoshop from Lightroom as edit in photoshop as layers. I can no longer choose selected layers and convert them into a smart object.

Hello,im trying to convert 12 layers into a smart object but i keep getting a" could not complete your request because of program error"....please help!

I'd first try resetting preferences.

 

Otherwise as a workaround you can try the following...


Work on a copy for safety. Save the file. Leave it open.

 

File > Place embedded and select the same file.

 

Open the smart object layer .psb doc that was created from the place command. Remove any layers that are not needed. Close and save.

 

Perhaps save and close and reopen the file to ensure that the SO and all else is good.

 

Delete the 12 layers from the main file as they are now in a SO layer.

 

Yes, it is a hack, I hope it works for you.

Hi, When you try to convert your images in smart object make sure you don't have locked layer.

and can you show us your screenshot while you insert your photo and try to convert it in smart object ?

If you open an image and Control (Mac) click on the Layer, does the drop-down menu, which has Convert to Smart Object listed, not appear?
