Can't copy the selection even though the correct layer is selected

Hi there,

I have a template of vector flourishes that I use for branding and I'm about to throw my computer across the room because I can not for the life of me get them to copy. It keeps telling me the selected area is empty, even though the correct layer IS selected and therefore shouldn't be empty. Please save my computer and tell me what I'm doing wrong. Thanks.

What is your process? You must have pixel based layer selected in the Layers panel and active selection in order to copy from that layer. From what I see you have layer group selected. Expand group and select layer with element, it should be pixel based layer.

If you have element on its own layer then copy that layer without selection, select layer then go to edit > copy or use kbd shortcut.

    Can you post screenshot with Layers panel visible?

    By the way, have you tried with Copy Merged instead of Copy? What happens when you use Copy Merged?

      Copy Merged works, but doesn't give me the effect I need. ie. it copies the background too and not just the element. here is a screen shot of what I'm trying to copy, and then copy to with the wrong effect. Regular copy/paste won't work though CommandC and CommandV. Thanks for your help!

      That seems to be a Group, not a pixel Layer.
