Can’t move unless in free transform mode

I have a really frustrating problem after looking at countless forums and videos nothing is helping.

I have an image that I want to move but I am only able to move it if it is in free transformation mode. I want to be able to click and drag the image freely.

I click and the a box highlights the image. In order for me to move it, I have to then click the edges to be able to move the object.

Can someone pleas help.

Yes, If I click on the image it will highlight the layer, but in order for me to move the layer I have to then click on the bounding box around it. Instead I want to just be able to click once and drag.

Not (click>then click box>then move).

I agree!

Since this is happening with all of your images--Have you tried turning off your Graphics Processor in Preferences? After you do, restart the program to see if it is still happening. If it is then it's not a glitch with the Graphics Processor and you can turn it back on in your preferences. If it does stop the problem, then you probably need to update your GP driver.

What version of Photoshop are you running?

From your GIF I see something what can help demystify things: no layer is selected at the beginning but that shouldn't be problem since you have Auto Select > Layer turned on. If you click on pixels on image that should select automatically. However, try this: click on layer to select it then watch in the document tab which must have layer name after document name @ zoom ratio then try to move object.

Is the layer with the tree and shadow otherwise transparent? It's hard to see on your animation.

No, this will happen with any given image.

Hi!

Can you tell us what version of Photoshop are you using? And, have you tried resetting your preferences?

Yes, I have reset the preferences completely multiple times, which has also now resulted in the blue transformation box instead of it being black.. and still having the same issue.

Version is 20.0.5 I believe.
