Question

Can't open photoshop because scratch discs are full

My scratch disc location seems to be stuck on "startup" ive tried the Ctrl + Alt thing but every time I press OK it closes and just gives me the same message "Could not initialize Photoshop because the scratch disks are full".

I tried uninstalling and redownloading photoshop to see if it would help but not even that worked.

I have no idea what else to do

I am having the exact issue. Tried control alt and cannot get past the "Could not open" message.  Have about 26 gb free on the hard drive so don't think that is the issue. First time I have ever seen this issue.

Your HD is full. Migrate files off the drive so that PS can open, then use Preferences/Scratch Disks to point to an alternate drive for usage.

DO NOT USE THE CC CLEANER.

That is specifically for Adobe resources and applications - you do not want to remove that.

You need to clean up your initial scratch disk - which sounds like is your main HD. Move files off this drive to give PS enough room to open.

Hi

Lest we get confused there are two "cleaners" being referred to in this thread.

First, there is CCleaner which cleans disks and registry. Whilst it could help, I agree with the others and would not use it as I would not want any application "cleaning" my registry.

Second, there is the Adobe CC Cleaner application which is used to remove remnants of Adobe CC applications after uninstall. Again that should not be needed here.

I asked earlier about how much disk space you actually have as it sounds like you need to clean out your temporary files to create some space.

How much space do you have on the designated scratch disk(s)?

Are you not able to open the Preferences neither? Did you try just to free some space on that disk (CCleaner) so that you can reach the Preferences at least and change the location of the scratch disk. That is what I had to do yesterday myself.

DO NOT use CCleaner. It will just cause you all manner of problems. Manually free up space and/or add another hard drive.

Sorry, works perfectly for me but you have to choose what to clean. Maybe you don't have the same experience, but I use it since at least a decade and never had any issue.
