Can´t paint white in layer mask

I can only hide areas in the image (by painting black or grey) but not bring them back (by painting white or grey).

It´s like i´m using the eraser tool. What am i doing wrong? There is no selection active.

Thanks! The brush blend mode was set to "darker" instead of "normal".
