Can't paste smart object with effects on another file? [Program error]

Question

I'm on photshop 23.5.5, this started happening recently. I haven't updated photshop because I would have to update my mac to ventura but I want to wait since I've heard it has a few bugs.

Usually when you grab a bunch of layers copy, paste them on a new file, now I get a box saying : "Could not complete the Paste Layers command because of a program error."

I noticed it's always when I have a smart object with added effects, once I double convert it to a smart object then I can copy/paste it, but it's getting really annoying since I don't want to go into each smart object layer to move around effect settings. Using the duplicate layers also doesn't work.

Anybody else having this issue? how do I fix it??

Hi @angelica22537740wodu sorry for the delay. Are you still experiencing the issue?

I would try resetting preferenes. Restore your preferences using this manual method:

Does it work correctly?

If that doesn't solve it, you can quit Photoshop and put the Settings folder back.

It may also help if we could see your Photoshop System Info. Launch Photoshop, and select Help >System Info...and copy/paste the text in a reply.
