Can you change the Linked Smart Object reference point?

I am using Photoshop 2020 for a lot of t-shirt mock ups. I am linking (linked smart object) designs in Illustrator with the t-shirt images in Photoshop. So if I change the design in Illustrator it will change on all the t-shirt images in Photoshop. That's working fine. The problem is that the reference point in Photoshop seems to be in the middle of the design. So when I change the design in Illustrator and it is a different size than the previous design I need to go and move all the designs around in Photoshop to be in the desired spot on the t-shirt. I would like to change this reference point to the top of the design. This would eliminate me from having to move all the designs around.

Is there anyway to do that?

OK, I can repro this. It's almost like Photoshop is ignoring the artboard that the vectors are resting on and instead is just concentrating on the actual vectors that were created. Not sure why that's happening, though my expectation would be that the artboard itself would be taken into consideration.

There may be a way around this, though. Try this:

In your Illustrator file create a rectangle shape on the bottom of the stack that's the same exact size as your artboard. (Use the Properties panel to find this out and set it appropriately.) Set it to no fill and no stroke. Try designing as usual and save, then see if everything stays as it should over in Photoshop.

THAT WORKED!!! Thanks so much. Such a simple solution. I've been racking my small brain for awhile on this.

Here's an example of what I'm trying to do.

Are the designs the same dimensions?

EDITED TO ADD: Also check the coordinates in the Properties panel. Are they the same when you update?

The designs are different sizes in Illustrator. The artboard is the same size but the design itself is different. What I'm trying to change is the default center reference point to be aligned at the top of the image.
