Can you help me to darken a photo?

Hello

I have an homework that consists of modifying an overexposed photo, however (as I'm just starting out) there are certain areas that I can't manage (the roof and the houses in the background)

I don't even know what I've done is right

Can you help me please?

There is absolutely nothing there to recover. All three channels are full white in those highlight areas.

What is the orginal image? Is it a RAW file for instance?

oh so that's why I can't do it

The original photo is the one on the left (the lighter one) and the image is a png

(I took it with my phone)

I am completely stupid, the photo format is jpg.
But I'll try again and take a less bright photo (with less burnt areas)
