Cannot open RAW files in Lightroom or Photoshop

Just upgraded to the latest versions of Lightroom CC, Photoshop and Camera Raw.

 

Now when I try to open any RAW files inside of Lightroom, I get the message: "cannot open X.RAW file because the file-format module cannot parse the file." The same RAW files open fine within Capture NX-D.

 

What gives? Is this a new bug in the latest releases?

Ok, don't know what the fix is yet, but think I figured out the underlying cause. After having great difficulty opening RAW files with the latest releases of Lightroom (9.0) and Photoshop (21.0), did a full uninstall and went back to 8.4.1 and 20.0.7 respectively. Everything is back to "normal" as far as I can tell.

 

If I was a betting man, my guess is some kind of bug within the latest Camera Raw.
