Caricatures and comic style

I am taking a course on turning photos into comic style characters, the liquify filter does not do what the liquify does in the course....bloating heads, resizing eyes, nose, zooming in and out on parts you are working on. Do i need a different version of photoshop that does this type of work?

It sounds like you are describing the face aware liquify feature which comes with the current version of Photoshop (I think it came in around 2015.5)

The older version, the oldest I have installed is CS6,  still had bloat, pucker and forward warp tools but not the specific facial controls in the new versions. You could also zoom in and out even in the older versions.
