cCamera raw does not save changes to a jpeg image after auto geometry change

This morning I opened a jpeg in Camera Raw and applied Geometry > Auto, which did a very nice job, but when I clicked OK the changes were not saved in Photoshop. I had to first save the jpeg as PSD, apply Auto Geometry in Camera Raw, return to Photoshop, and save as jpeg. Seems like a bug.

What do you mean by "saved in Photoshop"? Be specific, describe step by step.

Note that the Camera Raw processor, the plugin, is not the same as the Camera Raw filter accessed from the Filter menu in Photoshop. The latter is a small subset of the former.
