Question

Change text box size without altering type

Dont know if I m crazy here, but have always been able to go into properties to easily set a width for a textbox, as it makes my work a lot quicker and efficient... have just updated to Photoshop 2020, and suddenly, if I change the width of the textbox in properties, it stretches the type along with the width... I have looked in the preferences to see if I could find some box to check or uncheck, nothing...
Please tell me there is an option to turn that off, because that is absurd and incredibly frustrating!

Hi

When I click an insertion point in a text frame (Area Type), I can change the width by draggin or typing in Properties. When I try the same thing with Point Type (not in a frame), the Transform controls in Properties are grayed out.

What are you seeing? You might need to reset your Type tool or possibly reset Preferences if it doesn't work.

If your text layer is in the text editing mode you can resize your text area (and the text reflows). This behaviour hasn't changed from the previous versions.

If the type is stretching - it's point type - you clicked to make the box. If you click and drag you will get area type for paragraphs.

If you are saying what I think you re saying, i.e just type without creating a text box beforehand... then no, I do have a text box (or type area), that I clicked and dragged my mouse to create, that appears with a paragraph of lorem ipsum, that I then wish to resize to a specific width... I ve done it for a long time, in Photoshop 2018, 2019, never had an issue... only in the new version do I seem to not be able to do the exact same thing...

What Kennethkwawamoto2 said, you need to have the type tool selected and then the text reflows.
