Question

Changes don't take effect until I click somewhere else in Photoshop

When working on layers the effects don't take effect until I click somewhere else (either on another layer or on the image).  If I try to change the opacity of a layer it isn't in real time.  It isn't a memory problem as I have 128 GB of RAM.

Hi there,

That shouldn't be happening, let's make it right.

As the layers are not taking effect in Photoshop, could you please let us know the version of Photoshop you're working on and what operating system are you using?

Could you please try enabling "Legacy compositing" located in Photoshop's Preferences > Performance, then relaunch Photoshop and let us know if it helps?

Regards,
Sahil

Sahil,

I'm using Photoshop 2020 21.0.2, and the operating system is Catalina 10.15.2  I'm also having an issue of the saving extremely slowly.  It ususally stops at 98% for about 5 minutes.  Not sure if these two issues are related.  I went online and saw an article mentioning Legacy compositing, I tried this and the problem still existed.  This is a new computer so it isn't an issue of upgraded software.  I also get an error message No Windows Available and the program freezes and I can't save my work or change to another program.  I have to do a hard shutdown by holding down the power button.  For a new computer I'm struggling.   Thanks for your help.
